The NBC Citizenship approach has evolved over a number of years from a charitable agenda to a more sustainable approach that considers the broader impact NBC can have on society. We base our approach on three pillars:

Education and skills

We strive to equip the youth with skills and development they need to secure formal employment or self-employment.

Enterprise development

We believe that, by empowering small and medium enterprises, we help this country’s economy to grow.

Financial inclusion

Our goal is to introduce inclusive banking models that will provide or simplify access to financial services.

We help them grow by changing their mindset on not only being students but working adults

As the bank for the working nation, we strive to train the youth with skills and development they need to secure formal employment or self-employment, and also giving selected students access to tertiary education.

Wajibika Programme

Wajibika is an employability programme that helps young people in Tanzania build the skills they need to make the critical transition from education to work. It is aimed at empowering young people with the training and development they need to enhance their employment or self-employment opportunities.

Wajibika addresses a critical gap in a young person’s life in the transition from education to work. Closing this gap will not only ensure a successful transition to employment but also higher productivity for the business.

Wajibika is delivered online via a portal available on the NBC website, and also through face-to-face coaching through training sessions and workshops presented occasionally by NBC at different universities and secondary schools in Dar es Salaam.

As an incentive, NBC will provide a few lucky students who are first to complete the Wajibika Programme, an opportunity to be mentored by young people with successful careers and also secure an internship opportunity at one of the successful organisations or companies in Tanzania.
